bloggersss.  stylewithbenefits, tokyostargirl, wreckedstellar, issa, dru, hoisinivy

so a few weekends ago, i took a last minute trip to LA with some friends to visit MOAR friends.. and ALSO to do a blogger meetup with a few fabulous LA bloggers. SOOOO GREAT TO meet up with Becca, Mel and Steph (cool ppl use -half names)  we gossiped, chatted fashion, and future meetups at a popup shop in the west hollywood area.  the rest of the weekend was spent enjoying time with jeannie aka tokyostargirl (whom we surprised by the way) while exploring LA, scavenger hung style with comic book shops, food trucks, scotch served in bowls,  and of course karaoke.  enjoy a few pics.  and if you're brave.. video.

It's been awhile since I've posted on here. Just wanted to share some sun-shiny days from LA to wherever you are!

we love girlfriends.

In college, we were inseparable - wherever they were, I was -wherever I was, they were.
It's been awhile now since the 3 of us lived together or even in the same city for that matter. I miss those days, but it's great to know that no matter what happens in life, no matter where we are - we will always be close friends. I love them to pieces & am so THANKFUL for them!

Happy Thanksgiving! Remember to wear your stretchy pants & eat lots!

sunday best

dress: vintage shop in tokyo, boots: wild pair, bag: indio in tokyo, belt: vintage shop on montrose

I always dress up for church - that's how I was raised. Even though most churches that I've been to in LA are very casual (the pastors wear jeans and sometimes even shorts!) - I still have to wear my Sunday best. It gives me an excuse to get to dress up at least once a week.

I was in Houston this past weekend and got to reunite with Issa & Roz for Roz's wedding. It was soooo wonderful seeing them again since we don't get that many chances anymore. Will be posting pics of the 3 of us together soon!

black & white

Happy Halloween, everyone! This is my first Halloween spent in LA - there is so much going on everywhere around us, but we're just going to keep it low key.
If you're headed out this weekend - have fun! Hope you all gets lots of sweets & all things nice.

revlon.

revlon sent us over a few samples of their latest products which included the revlon fantasy length eyelashes. and MY OH MY. check out jeannie's fabulous lashes. gorgeous and definitely not over the top. I've personally never been able to pull off the fake lashes.. but these have changed my mind. plus they come in a variety of styles and they're self adhesive.

also check out the runway collection nails. definitely fun and affordable to play with for a night out.

seeing stars

The other night, on a whim, I went to meet up my favorite makeup artist buddy. We went to a cute 24 hour cafe for chocolate pie & cheesecake. Overdressed? I think not! There's always room for fun fashion - anywhere, anytime, anyhow!

I know it's been awhile, but I'm back!

Lots of things have happened since my last post. Moved back to the US from Japan, then moved from my sweet hometown of Houston (where Issa, Dru, & Roz reside) to LA where I'm feeling like a small girl in a big city. Learning to adapt is always the hardest, but in time it will come.

Glad I got to hang out with the crew from WWT during my short stay in Houston - wish we could have spent more time!

Had the pleasure of working with Dru as photographer & Issa as my model. =) Shall I post up some pics of our shoot? Too bad we didn't take a bbf trio pic! Darn!

Miss you guys! Once I get all my ish together - I'll post more. Thanks for tuning in ...

Easter Sunday

Dress & Shoes : Takeshita Dori (Harajuku), Tights : Hula (Shibuya), Belt: on the streets of Seoul, Bag: Ewha

So out of the thousands of photos that Dru took - I was lucky enough to be a part of his last shots (right in front of my complex), as we were rushing to get him to the train to go to the airport. I had a great time showing Issa & Dru around this wonderful city that I live in and love. I'm sure you'll see plenty of photos soon enough. =)

I wanted to go for an "Spring" theme since I was headed to church after I dropped Dru off. I love this dress I found a few months ago at a vintage shop in Harajuku. The flowers just makes me so happy. It's finally starting to feel like Spring in Tokyo!

spring is coming!

Spring is coming soon and the weather here (in Tokyo) is finally starting to show. In less than a week, I'm heading to Bali to enjoy the sunshine and relax in paradise... whew - I never thought I'd get the chance to go there so I'm super stoked! As soon as I get back, Dru & Issa will be visiting me in Japan! I hope I'll have enough energy left after my days in the sun to show them some of the things I love about this country.
Who knows - we might even have time to do a photoshoot with the original 3 BFFs. =)

church girl

top: wet seal, belt: shop in shibuya, shoes: girly shop at greenspoint, skirt: thrift store in harajuku, tights: h & m
I wore this outfit to church on Sunday. Just wanted to make the tiny bit of red that is on my skirt stand out so I wore red flats & a thin red belt. I scored this skirt at a thrift store (yes! a thrift store!) in Harajuku. Spread out - it looks like a painting! I love digging for bargains, especially when I have "I love me" days. Lately I've been trying to stay away from shopping, though... because I decided to treat myself on a trip to BALI for Spring Break! I'll wait to see what kind of bargains I can find there and of course I'll be sure to let you all know. =)

in my seoul...

cardigan = $5 !!!!

Japan had a huge sale over the weekend (I have no idea why) and I managed to snag this grey stripped cardigan for $5! It's super comfy & way worth it. =) I wore it over a dress, with leggings, and dark grey boots.

BTW - I got a MAJOR hair cut over the weekend - chopped about 8 inches off! You can check out the makeup I wore with this outfit & a more up close pic of my crazy short hair - here.

PS. Happy Lunar New Year ! - "Chuc Mung Nam Moi" ! (in Vietnamese)

love this scarf!

jacket: ON, dress: H&M, tights: H&M, boots: universe, scarf: boutique in harajuku
I just have to tell you all how much I love this scarf (I also wore it in my last entry)! I stumbled upon it by surprise one day when I "wasn't supposed to be shopping" (isn't that always when you find everything you want?) I love scarves, but sometimes I think they look too.. dare I say, normal? There aren't too many ways to wear them, or maybe I'm just lacking skills in that area. Not this scarf, though - it's far from "normal" and no matter how you wear it - it just flows on it's own. It has so much volume - I love it. All I've gotta say is : I'll be on the hunt for more scarves like this!
PS. Yay I also found boots that fit my big calves!

too cool to cry

Happy belated New Year, everyone!

I got this whole outfit (from head to toe) for $60 in Tokyo!
scarf: $5, shirt: $10, dress: $10, tights: $5, boots: $30
Oh how I LOVE my Harajuku finds!

15 minutes after I took this picture, I was riding my bicycle over to my friend's apt and got into a semi-bad accident. I'm okay, but my tights, shoes, and gloves (not pictured here) had to suffer.
Of course I was too cool to cry so right after I fell off my bike - I picked it up, jumped right back on, and rode 3 blocks to the pharmacy to clean it up.

tucked in

mustard top: shop in harajuku for $10!, light brown cover: kinji for $20!, pants - somewhere in houston, boots: universe (my fav. shoe shop in tokyo!) for $30!

I'm starting to really fit back into Japan, Tokyo especially. I never understood the "tucking your pants into your boots" idea, but it has certainly grew on me and now I love it. It's a nice way to be able to wear boots and have others see them!

a very purple winter

So I finally mustered up the courage to ask my roommate to take some pics of my outfit. I've always been hesitant because I didn't want him to think I was vain, but then I found out that he had a website dedicated to anime and Japanese toys and although it's nothing like taking pics of yourself, at least he understands this blogging world. Also I was getting tired of Dru & Issa complaining about my pics and narrow mirror. So here's to many!
Winter is coming! You can totally feel it walking on the streets of Tokyo. I have plenty of coats, but didn't want to lug them all back to Japan so I left most of them at home. The other day while walking through Harajuku, I found this awesome purple jacket that is roomy enough so I am able to wear something underneath, but light enough for days that aren't too chilly.
PS. I just got those boots last week in the neighborhood I used to live in. Some days when I just feel like roaming around - I'll go there and spend hours just browsing. The past 2 times, though - I came home with 3 pairs of boots each. So yes - I treated myself to 6 pairs in the last month. =/ Yikes!

trying to be a bit artistic with this pic. =)
Hello again from Tokyo! Sorry for my lack of updates, but I always forget to take pics of what I wear! Plus - being a teacher, I have to get down and messy with the kids so it's hard to wear 'cute' clothes!
Yesterday was an exception because it was Thanksgiving (although 95% of Japan doesn't celebrate it - duh!) - since I was going out to a Thanksgiving dinner with some of my girlfriends, I decided to wear a dress!
It was quite chilly, so I wore a red (for color) knee length jacket (not pictured), black calf length boots, black tights, and black leg warmers.
Hope everyone is enjoying their Thanksgiving feast! I'm across the world -jealous of you!

Hawaii in Tokyo

I go to a Hawaiian church in Tokyo called New Hope.

I never had anything remotely "Hawaiian" and although this doesn't exactly fit under the category either, it's close enough. I love the colors (pink & purple) and how comfortable it fits. I paired it with a black pocket skirt and my new "holiday" purple flats!

I head back to the US this weekend, first to meet my niece for the first time in Virginia and then back to Texas to reunite with the girls (Issa & Roz) and the boy (Dru) - I'm super excited! America is a good place to be right about now. Go OBAMA! =)

If you want to see the makeup I wore with this outfit - go to www.tokyostargirl.com =)

Halloween in Tokyo

I played the part of 2 different pumpkins this year. On Thursday (we celebrated with the kids early) I was a "Pumpkin Princess" & on Friday we took the kids on a sweet potato digging field trip (though that is radish 'daikon' I am holding)and I dressed up more as a "cute" pumpkin. I bet you've never seen someone dressed up out in the field before, now have you? =)

Hope everyone had a great night out!
