head dressing

because of the vintage feel and added 'oomph' it gives to an outfit, the fascinator has quickly become the hot new accessory. inspired by several ladies on the 'net (okay, and maybe a teensy bit by kenley's PR collection -- though i will say, for the record, i was not a big fan of her collection in general), i decided to give this look a try and wore one to a wedding i attended this past weekend. i picked up this feather fascinator from urban outfitters a couple of days before the wedding, although upon closer inspection, i realized that this was something i could perhaps attempt to make on my own, given more time (future project!).

now, i'm not a big fan of wearing black to weddings (i realize this is no longer taboo, but for some reason this is one 'rule' that sticks with me), but i wanted the fascinator to be the focal piece of the outfit and this dress was the only one i had in my closet that complemented my headpiece without detracting from it. i wish i had taken a picture of the entire outfit that night, but honestly, i was too busy either at the bar, catching up with old friends, on the dance floor, or gushing over the adorable newlyweds to think about it.

  2. I love fascinators! We're gearing up for the spring racing carnival here in Melbourne so I whipped up a couple of fascinators to match my outfits. It's really easy, you just need a plain headband, some feathers and a glue gun!

  4. I love the idea of the fascinator at a wedding. It's a very clever idea to increase the appeal of the outfit.

I'd love to see a bride wearing one instead of a tiara, floral headpiece, or veil.

  5. Holy smokes, I was thinking/feeling the same way! I don't need to see the whole outfit to know it's adorable.
